Only 30 years later, in 1893, the Pennsylvania Railroad, successor to the C&A, replaced this station with a stately structure of brick with a tall, mansard slate roof, handsome central closed-gabled bays front and back, and wide eaves to shelter passengers coming off the street. The station moved to its present location in 1863, alongside the Delaware and Raritan Canal, after rail realignment. Trenton has known rail service since the very early days of American railroading, when the Camden and Amboy (C&A) Railroad first built a rough wooden building for passenger and freight traffic on East Street in 1837. In addition to Amtrak, the facility is served by NJ TRANSIT and SEPTA commuter trains and NJ TRANSIT buses the NJ TRANSIT River Line light rail is also a short block away.
